::Middle TN Fiber Festival - May 23 & 24::

Fiber fanatics , families and anyone curious about the textures, sounds and colors of the fiber world will enjoy two days of classes, exhibits and other explorations at the second annual Middle Tennessee Sheep, Wool and Fiber Festival to be held at the Dickson County Fairgrounds in Dickson TN on May 23 and 24th. The event will be open to the public from 1 p.m.to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 23, and from 9 a..m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday May 24. Complete details on classes,vendors and the fiber competition to be held is at www.tnfiberfestival.com.

Charlotte residents Steve and Beth Shafer, owners of Three Creeks Farm, have been working hard for two years to make this annual event a 'must' for anyone interested in any aspect of fiber, from raising sheep to spinning its fleece into colorful yarns for knitting, spinning and other uses.

Interested in creating a rug? Friday's classes include full day workshops on Rag Rug Weaving and The Shepherd's Rug. Half day workshops include Beginning Knitting, fiber preparation, and 'Take Spinning Back to the Basics'. Saturday, explore a wide range of half-day workshops (take two!) in spinning, knitting, crocheting, naalbinding, triangle loom weaving, dyeing variegated yarn and felting. Registration forms are on the website or contact Three Creeks Farm at 615-789-5943 for more information and to register.

Vendors will supply a wide variety of fiber beauty, from fleeces to roving and yarn. The tools of the trade - spinning wheels, spindles and other tools - will be available as will natural soaps and craft-related books. Vendors include Three Creeks Farm, Far Out Farm, Deer Trace Farm, Bon Aqua Cabin, Ozark Carding Mills, Peaceful Pasture, The Knaughty Knitter, Aprons by LaraLee and Praise Song Farms, Cozy Cove Llamas and Amish Country Fibers and Countryside Crafts. Additional fiber artists will have their wares in a group booth.

An organizational meeting of the Southeast Shetland Sheepbreeder's Association will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Festival (contact tn3creeksfarm@yahoo.com if interested) and Dr. Greg Thomas will demonstrate fecal testing of sheep and goats will be held from 2-3 p.m.. The free workshop is limited to six participants.

Food will be available at the fairgrounds Saturday and Miss Mabel's Tea Room will host a buffet Friday night at 6 p.m.

::Whoohoo! More Koigu!::

Hey, that title rhymes! Anyway, it is what it is....we have more of the Koigu love arriving on Friday, Apr. 18! Well, that's what the FedEx notification email says, and they have been known to be wrong...hopefully not...

And, we just got a bunch of colors restocked in KnitCol, that crazily-named self-striping yarn from Plymouth that we can't get enough of. It makes great kids' hats, sweaters, booties, you name it! It never stays in stock for very long.

Come spend an afternoon knitting with us at the shop! We'll put on some coffee, sometimes we have chocolate too. Oh, and thanks Karen B. for bringing the cinnamon Babka the other day - one can NOT go wrong with The Babka, IMHO....

There are some good classes available for signups still - catch them while you can. Check the list online, call or stop by for your copy of the Late Spring Newsletter
'08!

::Spring is Here (?)::

Well, we think so anyway....70 degrees today, 50 in a few days....that's spring in middle Tennessee! In any case, we have you covered - we've got new spring yarns, some old winter favorites and a few things to carry you through any season!

First off, we FINALLY got in some long-awaited Malabrigo yarn. It's getting as difficult as Koigu to get! What that means to you is this: even though it's spring, you don't want to miss picking up some of this yarn. It's great for sweaters, shawls, mittens, fingerless gloves (I have a pair of Fetchings in this, thanks to Charisse!), you name it! It's also fantastic for felting. Come and get yours today - they tell us a few more colors are coming next week, too...

Next up - shawl pins by Shaune Bazner. These never stay in the shop long. Laura picked this batch and did a fine job if I might say so. These can be used as hair sticks too! The new Knit.1 just arrived a few days ago too and it is looking like a keeper!

Reynolds/Artful Yarns sent a lovely box of goodies on Monday, including a little bit of Reality (we all need that sometimes...) for you last minute (or early go-getter) scarf knitters. We now have a beautiful model of Cliche, a cotton/linen/acrylic blend with a nice crisp feel on the skein, soft when knit up. And something we didn't have much of: a true sport weight yarn in a cotton/viscose blend, Sunday Best. They use it in the Reynolds' Kids book, but this yarn is great for any age. Did you pick up a copy of the Spring 08 Vogue Knitting magazine? The featured cover sweater is made from Sky, a new biofil cotton from Tahki/S.Charles. What is biofil? It's cotton that is pesticide and chemical free, hand-picked (low technical impact on the land) and dyed with a low-impact process. And we have it in stock! You'll love it!

Last but not least, I want to bring your attention to our classes on the newsletter that just went out by email. If you want your own copy, please come by the shop or print it from our website. We have a very interesting "class" starting next Tuesday - you're not going to want to miss this! It's called Knitting for Your Ears, and it's not really a class at all. Each week for 3 weeks, we're going to play two hours of an audiobook mystery centered around - you guessed it - a knitting shop!

You can bring your knitting, crocheting, or just yourself, and we'll serve up some snacks and drinks while you relax and work on your projects. On the 3rd and final week, after we finish up the book, we're going to call the author directly and have a Q&A session with him. How fun does that sound? Call today to sign up. It's ok if you have to miss a week - you can purchase the book at the shop, and catch up anytime. Come one week or all three, you can pay as you go! It'll be lots of fun! See you there!
