::Special Deliveries!::

A big batch of Schaefer Laurel just came in! We got some fun bright colors - if you've been wanting to make another Man Magnet Shawl, come on in! It only takes two skeins - you can see our model on display if you're curious...

We just received a beautiful buttery-soft 100% handspun Bolivian alpaca yarn from Mango Moon in four colors - cinnamon, cream, charcoal and fawn. Some of it has already been snapped up by the employees right out of the box! :)

And the Lantern Moon shipment arrived - we haven't even had a chance to open the boxes, we've been so busy, but we have Silk Needle Cases, Mini Rice Baskets, the new Provence bag, and more... great for gift-giving or treating yourself!

There is plenty of time to take a few classes before the holiday break - try debb's Knitting 101 (perfect if you have only made a scarf or two and want to take it to the next level) or Pam's Toe-Up Socks (these are done quickly on #5 needles and self-striping Artyarns Handpaint Stripes).

Speaking of gift-giving, we have a new display of knitting items perfect for holiday prezzies. Try the new limited edition holiday scent from Soak, a knitting calendar, baskets or needle cases, a skein of cashmere, a sheep tape measure, sparkly holiday scarf yarn - come see for yourself!

::A Trunk Show and a Great Gift!::

Come in and see the gorgeous Elegant Heirlooms Xmas Stocking Trunk Show! We'll have it on display for the new few weeks. These are the most beautiful Christmas stockings you have ever seen. We can order these kits in any design any time and they will certainly be heirlooms. My favorites are the old world Father Christmas with a sheep, and the Sugarplum Fairies, perfect for the little girls in your life. Now why don't they have a Ms. Santa with a sheep, I wonder? We'd probably sell those like crazy...

Also perfect for gifting that special friend in your life, Denise Interchangeable Needles are available now in a pink box, with pink cords. They are slightly more expensive than your average kit, but the difference goes to breast cancer research. Currently, we have the kit and the Companion Cord set available in pink. If you don't live locally and want these, we are happy to mail order!

Hope your holiday shopping is going well. If you need a break, come in for some coffee, knitting and relaxation!

::We Got All Kinds of Stuff This Week!::

It has been quite the delivery week! We got more Schaefer Anne (great for socks or shawls), two HUGE boxes of Misti Bulky Alpaca, Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky, Denise needle sets (perfect for gift giving!) - including some new pink ones (a portion of the price goes to breast cancer research),

and Tahki Pom Pom (the cutest baby cotton with pom poms attached!). Oh, the new Winter 2006 Interweave magazine is in, and we have the coolest new handmade stitch markers (yarn balls, mitered squares and more) from local clay artist Francie Owens. You may have seen some of her work if you read the Mason-Dixon Knitting blog. Oh, and incredible notecards from local oil painter Kim Barrick - these are photos of some of her yarn series. Whew! What a list! We are STILL trying to get it all on the shelves.

You have a week or so to submit an entry for our latest contest. Whaddya mean, what contest? We've been doing them since last summer! Here's info about the contests and for this one, we'd like you to make some sort of flower - felted, knit, crocheted, whatever! Try a Nonibag flower, or something you've been wanting to try out of a magazine. The winner will get a $25 gift certificate to AHYC. But the entry has to be here by Nov. 30. We vote from Dec 1-15. So hurry - it won't take long, this is an easy one! Anyone from beginner to expert can do this!

We're working on some new scarf models for you to make for friends and family this year. Some are in the window and some are around the shop. If you don't have time to knit or don't knit at all, check out our Angel Wares Boutique. We have done the work for you - buy a painting, jewelry, shawls, scarves, soaps, washcloths, purses, vintage fabric flower pins, deconstructed clothing items, and more. All items were made locally or by our own employees. Cross a name off your holiday shopping list quickly by buying a quality handmade gift in our Boutique.

We're open this Friday and Saturday, 10am-6pm! See you there!

::Why We're Thankful::

Some Reasons Why We're Thankful

Reason #1: We're thankful for the customers who get as excited about new yarns or the UPS man as we get.

Reason #2: We're thankful for the customers who accept the staff of AHYC as we are - sometimes we're crazy, loud, cranky, giddy, silly, tired, overstimulated, or happy for no reason whatsoever. We're real people too and you guys see that. Thanks!

Reason #3: We're thankful for the customers who bring us their best receipes, leftover holiday candy, and lunch or drinks when we're super busy. For the customers who check up on us when we (or a family member)are ill. You guys sure go the extra mile for us!

Reason #4: We're thankful for the customers who say, "I wish your shop was closer to my house because I love to just sit here and knit with you. I continue to come here because your shop is worth the drive." That's awesome!

Reason #5: We're thankful for the big steps that we've seen many customers make this year... for the customers who came into the shop for funky scarf yarn and have now moved on to sweaters, socks and so much more... for the ones who've donated time, money and yarn for the less fortunate in our area. We're so proud of you!

Reason #6: We're thankful for the customers who help fellow customers at the table when we're swamped... for helping answer the phone or greet a new table sitter with interest... for taking the time to help knit sample swatches or models. You're the best!

Reason #7: We're thankful for the best employees ever! You guys fill in at the last minute for each other, work hard with few breaks and late lunches, make the shop look cleaner and more organized than our homes, deal wonderfully with all kinds of customers in all kinds of moods and situations, and you make customers feel welcome. Thank you VERY VERY much!

We could go on and on...but you get the picture, right?
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

::Lots of Rowan and New Books!::

We got a HUGE shipment of Rowan in a few days ago, including Kid Classic, Kidsilk Haze, Big Wool Fusion, RYC Soft Tweed, four weights of Scottish Tweed, Regia Bamboo sock yarn, Nashua Julia, Nashua Woolly Stripes and Woolly Stripes Tweed.

Speaking of Rowan, did you know we have a link that gives info on all Rowan yarns, both old and new? Check it out by clicking here and choosing Rowan Yarn Data!

We also got a few new colors of Euroflax Linen, a great big shipment of books (mostly new, some re-orders), and a bunch of new Soxie from Great Adirondack. I am working on the Jaywalker sock out of Soxie, and should have it up in the shop sometime soon...

A note about Thanksgiving...check the sidebar...

::Yet More New Stuff!::

Today we got in a gorgeous (and reasonably-priced!) self-striping sock yarn from Aurora/Ornaghi Filati called Luna Park. It would also be cute for any of those sideways baby sweaters we see from time to time in the magazines.

We also have nice wooden ball winders in stock, both a tabletop and a clamping model. And the new Interweave is in!

Just heard from Rowan - the rest of our order is on the way! It should be here by mid-next week.

One more thing - for those of you in the APP Club, because our discount period (Nov 1- Nov 12, in honor of our 12th birthday) ends on a Sunday and we're not open that day, we've decided to extend the discount to Monday, November 13. Pretty cool, eh? Take advantage of your double discount! We just got in a shipment of books - great place to take 20% off!

::A Knitting Movie and Twisted Sisters!::

.
We got in a whole bunch of lovely Twisted Sisters yarns - they're more spring-y than fall-y, but hey, this is the south, folks! We got lots of Daktari, some Mirage and a new 100% merino yarn called Zazu. The new books are great - Quintessentials and Graphic Fantastic (my favorite!). We also carry Petite Voodoo, a lovely silk/merino blend that is very subtly hand-dyed.

Want to make a really special project for a special baby? AHYC now carries a lovely 4-ply (fingering) Mongolian cashmere from Jade Sapphire in gorgeous pastels. Each skein is about 200 yds, perfect for knitting an heirloom-quality hat or booties.

Here's some big news - have you heard about the new movie about a knitting store? Can you believe it? We are SO mainstream now! For a list of other movies containing knitting scenes, see AHYC's "In the Movies" page.

::Some Knitting Content::

Have you guys heard of podcasts? I think they are very cool and I now listen to them on my commute to work each day. I like books-on-tape too, which are a great way to keep up with your favorites, yet still knit (or drive, as the case may be). Books-on-Tape (also on CD) are available from your local library, or you can rent from many places, my favorite of which is Recorded Books, LLC.

But since discovering podcasts, which are audioblogs, I have a lot to catch up on, so that's mainly what I listen to. There are lots to choose from now (the first one, Marie Irshad's "KnitCast", began around summer 2005), so listen to a few and see which styles you like. Keep in mind that the first episodes of many of these are a little rough, because many of these people are not voice professionals, so they are learning how to communicate their knitting stories without so many ummms, aaahs, and other extraneous noises. It's really a lot like sitting around the table at Angel Hair, listening to the conversations and speaking up when you have something to say. How cool is that?

I found it very easy to go to iTunes and download the free program. Go to iTunes Store and do a search on "knitting". Then use Help to find out how to send podcasts to your iPod. I only recently got one of those contraptions, so before that, I was downloading ("burning") several episodes to a CD-RW (a CD that I could erase and re-use) and listening to them in my car. You can also just listen to them straight from your computer, which I like to do - I can sit in my knitting chair with a mug of tea and knit while I listen. You can subscribe if you like a particular one and they should automatically download every time there is a new episode.

Some are clean, some have some bad words. Some are informative about books and news of the knitting world, some contain interviews with well-known knitting personalities. Some have great music interspersed with essays about knitting, some are just live conversations about knitting. You will meet many kinds of people, both men and women, from around the world (such as the US, Canada, Great Britain, and Australia), some of whom you completely connect with, some of whom may have lifestyles or habits that you don't agree with. But the great thing is that they all knit, so really down deep, we do have an important thing in common. I think that is totally amazing.

I am going to list a few of my current faves. Keep in mind - these are just ones that I think are funny or well-done. I haven't listened to them all.

Knit Cast by Marie Irshad
Pointy Sticks by Christine Selleck
Cast On by Brenda Dayne
BritKnit Cast by Carrie Ann Dennison

Find some that you like. If you have some great ideas for what you'd like to hear if you were knitting or driving to these, maybe you can create one of your own. The more, the merrier! And it brings us all closer together...

Enjoy!

p.s. We had GREAT anniversary sales this past Friday night and Saturday! Thanks to everyone who stopped by for Angel Hair's 12th Birthday! It was great fun! We were so busy I forgot to take pictures though...

::Isaiah and the Contest Winner!::

Now for some extreme cuteness! Isaiah's mommy had just made him his first hat, and she was worried about some minor imperfections in it (it WAS her first after all!). Did he care? No way, loved it, started playing with it immediately!

Guess who won our Baby Hat Contest, which ran from Sept 1 to Oct 15? Customers voted between Oct 15 and Oct 31, we counted them up, and ta da! Sherry Cotham was the big winner, with Hat #1! She won a $25 gift certificate to Angel Hair Yarn Co. Whoohooo!

Hats 2 & 3 are to be donated to Nashville Cares, our charity of choice this year!

Next contest, which starts RIGHT NOW!, is Flowers - Knit, Crocheted or Felted! Any which way is OK! Bring in your flowers to hang in our gallery from Nov 1 to Nov 30. We'll vote from Dec 1 to Dec 15 and give away a another $25 gift certificate to the winner!

::Library Knitting and Double Discounts!::

Didja forget? If you're in the APP Club (that is, Angels of Perpetual Purchase, or even easier, Frequent Shopper Club), your 10% discount is now 20% during November 1-12. Why? Because we're turning 12 on Saturday! Can you believe it? Read previous posts to learn more about the sale...

Next up, here are pictures from last month's Library Knitting Event (Ann, can we get a cool name for that deal?). We met on a gorgeous Monday at Nashville's downtown Public Library location, in the atrium...

This was Cheryl, the Knitting Librarian, doing the obligatory book spiel (since we ARE meeting at the library after all!).

Then I took another crummy photo of Ann with two of the Perfect Sweaters in hand. I'm convinced I can't get a picture of her with her eyes open. If they are open, the picture is bound to be blurry. It's a curse.

Then, from left to right, here are the some of the lovely attendees...Betty, Barb, DeeDee (from NH!), Francie, and Meg...
