::100th Post!!::

This is our 100th post - can you believe it? That is quite the milestone! I hope you find the AHYC blog and website as fun and useful as they seem in my head...hehee!

Now, for other big news, KOIGU IS HERE!!!! And we got lots of it. We should be receiving Koigu on a monthly basis from this point forward - some solids and some multis each time. That will keep the selection changing a lot more often - so (sigh...), you'll have to come back more often to see what colors we received. Is that so wrong? To love Koigu so insanely? We don't think so.

Muench is also here - we're bringing back Bel Air and Savannah, both very lightweight and yummy. The new Rebecca mag is not out yet, but will be in the next month, I think.

We have new hardware for felted bags - leather straps, corners and buckles, as well as magnetic clasps that are really cute! Oh and tons of plastic, wood and bamboo purse handles, finally! Pictures coming soon....Lantern Moon sent beautiful bags of all kinds, including some really unusual bucket and messenger bags made out of recycled Thai fishmarket bags. Cool! We have just a few left of the Susan Todd Designs messenger bags made out of recycled men's shirts. I bought the first one right outta the box! Lots of pockets inside, and a seat-belt strap. LOVE IT!

One more thing - Colinette is here. One word: GAWJUS! We decided to get Point 5 in early, just cuz. And we have new books as well as Parisienne (think Rowan KidSilk Haze, but HAND-DYED!), new AbFab kits, and a wee bit of Jitterbug sock yarn...the rest is backordered.

::Knitting for Good! update...and Contests!::

Remember back a month or so ago when we were knitting and crocheting squares to donate to shop in Blacksburg, VA? The ladies at that shop were going to put the squares together and donate blankets to comfort the families of the VA Tech victims. Well, we ended up sending 63 squares to the shop - way to go, everyone! Joanne also got the great idea to send a gift box of Christie Cookies and to have Ann and Kay from Mason-Dixon Knitting (since Ann is conveniently local!) send a signed copy of their book too!

So, Andrea and I were at TNNA, our fall buying market, in early June, and we met a group of ladies at a Vogue Knitting 25th Anniversary cocktail party. Guess who they turned out to be? The ladies from Mosaic Yarn Shop, the VA store that we sent the squares to! So cool! :) They were super nice and said they had received over 3000 squares at that point. I just check their blog, and it now says they have received 7456 squares! Holy moly! Thatsa lotta blankets! They also said "SEND MORE COOKIES!"

We are already down to one Modern Yarn "Skull" shirt, but we have plenty of other designs in stock. We'll order more skulls later this summer... Koigu is due to arrive on Wednesday, so don't miss out! We're also expecting a big shipment of Muench yarns, including some cool new felted purse hardware - leather straps, bottoms, and buckles. Very nice!

Also - Charisse is having a contest. She is looking for suggestions to name a baby boy. NOTE: She does NOT know what she's having, just that they already have a girl's name in mind. IF she has a boy, and IF they use your suggestion, you will win a $25 gift certificate to AHYC! Whoohoo!

Speaking of contests, our Summer Shawl/Wrap Contest is "wrapping" up (haha, sorry!) on June 30. We need more entries to give our current ones a run for their money - again, win a $25 gift certificate to AHYC after voting ends on July 15. Bring in a shawl or wrap that you made with yarn and pattern purchased at AHYC by June 30. Everyone will vote from July 1 - 15, then we'll count the votes! Hurry - not much time left on this one!

Suggestions for new contests? We're writing the fall newsletter as we speak, so give us your ideas! Also - what classes would you be interested in this fall? Would you prefer technique classes (if so, which ones?) or would you like something more along the lines of a project KAL? We want to know!

::Oh Yes, There's More...::

Some scenes from our recent sale...

Both days were really fun - thanks to everyone for your support! Mark your calendars for our 13th Anniversary Sale, the first weekend in November - Friday night 7-9pm for the APP sale and all day Saturday for the general public.

Now for today's news!
Today we received gorgeous Mongolian Cashmere 4-ply by Jade Sapphire - one skein will easily make a newborn hat and a pair of booties! I had enough left over to make another hat, actually...

We have lots of new t-shirts from Modern Yarns, including a cool new Skull/Yarn design saying "Born to Knit"! Cool! :) Ummm...not all of them are so...wild, so come in and check out the other designs! We received some great new patterns from Aurora Yarns - some lace shawls, some boleros (short and long sleeve, knit and crocheted), some bias-knit tops that can be knit with or without sleeves, and a chunky basketweave baby sweater. Oh, and we got a bunch of patterns from Blue Sky Alpaca, including two new lacy summer tops. Be on the watch for patterns from Mac'n Me - these patterns are written for the Blue Sky yarns and they are wonderful!

And here's a model you'll want to check out live (in our front window)...this is Joanne's tank top out of Filatura di Crosa Malva ribbon, which she knit VERY quickly.
This next one's not live, but I wanted you to see it - a bunch of us knit squares out of Jo Sharp DK Wool and Alice was sweet enough to coordinate the effort and sew the squares together for Charisse! The blanket is from the Vogue On The Go Baby Blanket book.

::Some Great Little Projects::

Whew - the past few weeks have been a whirlwind here at AHYC! First we counted inventory, then we ran off to Columbus, OH to see what's new and to order great stuff for late summer and fall knitting. THEN, we topped it off with a sale last weekend! So that means it's time to hunker down into an well-airconditioned space and hit the knitting.

Here's some stuff we've been whipping up recently:
First, a quick pair of fingerless gloves (yeah, I know they're out of season, but it's never too early to knit holiday gifts!), made out of a skein of Garnstudio Silke Tweed and a skein of Rowan KidSilk Haze knit together, from the Classic Elite booklet Tweed Four .

Then, Charisse (who is due to have a baby in late August, for those who didn't know...) made a mitered baby blanket based on the Mason-Dixon Knitting book, using Tahki Cotton Classic. She also made this red topdown sweater (from a Knitting Pure & Simple pattern) out of Berroco Pure Merino. And (yes, there's more!), she finished up this little striped vest out of Rowan Babies, using Rowan All Seasons Cotton.

What's new? We got a batch of new patterns from Artyarns, using the Regal Silk and the gorgeous Beaded Regal Silk - the beads now come in pewter, silver AND gold. We have some new colors in the Beaded Silk and Handpaint Stripes. The new Knitters and KnitScene just came in. We just received a refill on Encore, including some new colors and new colors in Galway and Dreambaby DK.

We are about to put discontinued and low-stock Rowan yarns on sale - there's not much All Seasons Cotton left...watch for Big Wool Tuft and more to go on sale...So more more to tell - we'll post again soon!
