THE SIMPLEST WRAP EVER

by Anthea Mazer

Simplest WrapClick for larger picture

Materials:
7 skeins of Muench/GGH “Big Easy”  (or 700 yds of any worsted weight summery fiber), #10.5 straight or circ needles, 3 large buttons

NOTE:  Gauge isn’t terribly important here – you just want a drapey, soft fabric!

Begin:
Cast on 50 stitches.  Slipping (as if to purl) the first stitch of every row, begin stockinette stitch (St st = knit a row, purl a row) and knit until 6 skeins (approx. 600 yds) have been used.  You may want to wrap the knitting around your shoulders at this point and check to see that it wraps around comfortably.  End having finished a WS row.

Make buttonhole:
Starting on a RS row, knit the first 40 stitches, turn the work and continue in St st until 9 more rows have been worked (only on the first 40 stitches, remember!).  Cut the yarn (leave a 5” tail for weaving in ends later), reattach to the last 10 stitches at the point where you originally stopped, and knit in St st on that section for 10 rows.  Cut yarn again (leaving a similar tail) and reattach to the beginning of the entire row (far right side) and knit across both sections.  Continue in St st until you are almost out of yarn.  Knit 2 rows, then bind off.

Finishing:
Weave in ends, wash, dry, attach buttons vertically near right edge of right side of the wrap, about 10” up from the end with no buttonhole.  Wear anywhere and everywhere!
